This semester is going to be full of heavy reading assignments, so I feel like I have only a few weeks left to read what I want. Normally, I’m more of a magazine or blog reader, but lately, I’ve been interested in novels again.
When I’m not working, I like to lay out in the sun with music and a good book. This summer, I’ve read four books that have been enjoyable. Four books may not seem like a lot to people who are avid readers, but I am proud of myself! I like books about relationships that move quickly with lots of dialogue. Too much description or too many pages of backstory cause me to get bored. I guess I can blame the “2-minute read” labels on social media links!

My last book of summer will be Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney. Have you read it? I discovered Sally Rooney by scrolling through Kaia Gerber’s Instagram feed and noticing the books in her photos. I finished Normal People by Sally Rooney earlier in the summer, and I really liked her writing style. Conversations with Friends is listed on Vogue’s “10 Best Books of 2017” and The Cut’s “Best Books by Women”. Elle magazine also named it one of the “Best Books of the Year”.
According to the back cover: “Frances is a coolheaded and darkly observant young woman, vaguely pursuing a career in writing while studying in Dublin….”
I like it already!
“Conversations with Friends is wonderfully alive to the pleasures and dangers of youth, and the messy edges of female friendship…”
This sounds like the perfect way to wrap up summer. Share your best of summer titles with me! I’d love to hear your recommendations.
