For the last decade, our family has traveled to the southern-most point of North Carolina: Bald Head Island. I’ve spent my entire life in Charleston, West Virginia, but I feel like I’ve grown up on this secluded island that can only be reached by private boat or ferry. The 25-minute ride from Southport to Bald Head Island is an adventure of its own, followed by the “golf cart only” transportation from the time your water transportation pulls into the marina.

We love the isolation of Bald Head Island, which is as rugged and natural as any beach you would find in New England. The narrow streets remind me of the most Instagrammed posts of Nantucket, particularly the sun-washed beach houses and rows of blue hydrangea bushes.
No summer is complete without a trip to BHI. If you can’t visit right away, then travel through some of my most recent vacation pictures.
